Much of my design background follows the evolution of the web.
For fun
Growing up with Hypercard in school, and playing games like Myst, inspired me to become an interactive designer before I even knew what that meant. As soon as my parents got online, building web pages was one of the first things I did, having fun posting about things I enjoyed. (I still do this with my faves list.)
I soon joined a team of people who built movie fan sites. This was at the turn of the century (the site was thusly called Cinemenium) and at the time was a unique concept, especially done at the level we were eventually able to design and develop the sites.
Professionally
These fan sites got me my first job where I continued to hone my web design skills by focusing on user-friendly design best practices and following web standards for coding my designs. Doing both and better understanding web browser rendering through frontend coding made my design work more functional and accessible.
I further progressed on overall user experience design and the flow of how users interacted with a website. Along the way I leaned into interface design as websites offered e-commerce and social media functionality, and software was turning into web apps. I even started my own web app side project.
This in turn lead me to focus on UI/UX design and product design, and is the work I primarily do today. I also still keep up with modern web design practices. And occasionally blog about my thoughts on design and tech.
